About the Opportunity
This is a 24-month fixed-term graduate opportunity designed to give you practical, hands-on experience in the energy industry. As a Graduate Metering & Communications Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant management of distribution metering systems and technologies.
You’ll work alongside experienced professionals to contribute to the development of metering standards, manage metering assets and agreements, and gain insight into the regulatory and operational landscape. This role offers a unique opportunity to build on your existing technical skills and contribute to the development and adoption of emerging digital metering technologies that support a sustainable energy future.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with service providers and meter suppliers to support distribution metering needs.
- Assist with the coordination of interval meter site installations and ensure compliance with market rules and regulations.
- Support the approval process for new meter types and associated equipment to meet network requirements.
- Contribute to the effective and safe management of gas metering assets.
- Assist in audits, reviews, and feasibility studies to ensure cost-effective asset management.
- Support procurement, installation, and maintenance of metering services.
- Assist with testing and quality assurance of meters and communication equipment.
- Contribute to financial reconciliation and regulatory reporting to comply with gas distribution system codes.
- Support the development of procurement specifications and review supplier performance to optimise cost efficiency.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of meter replacement and testing programs in line with regulatory requirements.
- Help plan and develop metering standards and policies that align with business goals.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets to ensure effective allocation of metering resources.
- Contribute to the management of Head End Systems, portals, and communications for metering assets.
- Collaborate with Information Technology teams to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
- Assist in the evaluation and development of new remote metering technologies.
- Maintain awareness of AGIG’s environmental and social goals and contribute to our net zero targets.
About You
- A degree in Engineering, preferably Electronic, Communications, or Mechatronics, OR a tertiary qualification in Computer Science or Information Technology
- Experience working in the utilities or energy sector
- Familiarity with databases and data querying
- Exposure to wireless communications technologies and/or device management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Clear and confident communication
- Ability to interpret technical and regulatory information into actionable plans
- Sound judgment and decision-making ability
- Willingness to learn and contribute to innovative energy solutions
