Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) owns, operates and invests in infrastructure which delivers gas to more than two million homes and businesses, and is one of the largest gas infrastructure businesses in Australia. AGIG manages distribution networks, transmission pipelines and storage capacity. AGIG recently grew to over 1300 employees. We also manage a large contractor workforce, who provide both specialist and operating and maintenance services on AGIG’s gas distribution networks.

About the Opportunity
At Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG), effective communication helps build trust, strengthen relationships and showcase the important role our infrastructure plays in supporting communities and the energy transition.
As our External Communications Advisor, you will play a key role in positioning AGIG in the public domain and supporting how we engage with stakeholders, industry and the media. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role supports the delivery of AGIG’s Corporate Affairs Strategy through strategic communications planning, high-quality content development and coordinated messaging across the organisation.
Working closely with teams across the business, you will help ensure AGIG communicates clearly, consistently and confidently with external audiences while supporting our ambition to be recognised as a customer-focused business, a leading employer, and a contributor to sustainable communities.
This role can be based in Adelaide or Melbourne, with flexibility across these locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of AGIG’s Corporate Affairs Strategy through the development and execution of strategic communications plans and materials.
- Develop speeches, presentations and briefing materials to support senior leaders and key engagements.
- Maintain and manage the corporate engagement calendar to support strategic external engagement activities.
- Draft public relations materials, including media releases, statements and responses.
- Safeguard AGIG’s reputation by reviewing external communications and materials to ensure alignment with organisational values, messaging and brand identity.
- Develop and deliver issues-based communications plans and campaigns, including key messages and supporting fact bases.
- Coordinate communications across the organisation to ensure consistent messaging across channels and audiences.
- Provide input into the development and execution of AGIG’s media strategy.
- Support the communications team in developing ad-hoc content across a range of channels that supports AGIG’s vision of being: Customer Focused, A Leading Employer, Operationally excellent and Supportive of sustainable communities
- Assist in building and maintaining relationships with journalists, media outlets and external stakeholders.
- Represent AGIG at relevant industry forums, events and public affairs engagements when appropriate.
About You
- Qualifications in Communications, Media, Public Relations, Corporate Affairs or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Relevant experience in communications, public relations or corporate affairs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop written, visual and spoken communications, including speeches, presentations and media materials.
- Experience developing and delivering communications strategies and campaigns.
- Ability to identify opportunities to build AGIG’s reputation through media engagement, speeches and external communications.
- Confidence engaging with media representatives, or a willingness to develop this capability.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with experience working across internal and external audiences.
- Ability to translate strategy into practical actions and deliver outcomes.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge or experience in the energy sector would be an advantage.
