Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) owns, operates and invests in infrastructure which delivers gas to more than two million homes and businesses, and is one of the largest gas infrastructure businesses in Australia. AGIG manages over 36,000km of distribution networks, more than 4,300km of transmission pipelines and 60 petajoules of storage capacity. We employ over 500 team members and manage a contractor workforce of approximately 1600, who provide both specialist and operating and maintenance services on AGIG’s gas distribution networks.

We will continue to work with customers and stakeholders to deliver and develop the energy infrastructure solutions essential to lowering emissions – including through natural gas, renewable gas and carbon capture and sequestration solutions.
About the Opportunity
In this impactful role, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental policies, procedures, and programs that ensure AGIG’s compliance with environmental legislation and industry best practice. You will partner with internal teams and Service Providers to champion sustainable operations, guide our response to emerging issues, and strengthen our environmental performance. This position is Melbourne-based, offered as a part-time permanent role, and will have responsibility for Australian Gas Network and Multinet Gas Network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement environmental policies and procedures aligned with local, state and federal regulations and AGIG commitments.
- Conduct environmental audits, assessments, and performance monitoring, providing clear reporting and insights.
- Prepare, manage, and review permits and regulatory documentation.
- Stay across evolving environmental and gas industry regulatory requirements, advising on trends, innovations, and leading practices.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance and support on environmental management.
- Represent AGIG on industry, state, and national working groups, promoting leadership in environmental and ESG initiatives.
- Engage with Service Providers to support field reviews, coaching, and continuous improvement.
- Lead environmental training, cultural change programs, and technical capability initiatives.
- Develop and manage sustainability programs aimed at reducing waste, improving resource efficiency and progressing AGIG’s environmental and social targets, including pathways to net zero.
- Coordinate across departments to embed environmental considerations into strategic and operational decision-making.
- Manage environmental incidents, support remediation efforts, and contribute to risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical advice to ensure environmentally responsible operations and long-term sustainability outcomes.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant Environment Acts and Gas Regulations.
- Understanding of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Extensive experience in environmental compliance and sustainability, ideally within the infrastructure or energy sector.
- Strong knowledge and application of environmental and quality management systems and principles.
- Ability to interpret and apply environmental legislation, policy, and strategy.
- Experience engaging proactively with energy regulators and aligning work to business strategy.
- Proven capability in documenting systems, developing procedures, and delivering training programs.
