Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) owns, operates and invests in infrastructure which delivers gas to more than two million homes and businesses, and is one of the largest gas infrastructure businesses in Australia. AGIG manages distribution networks, transmission pipelines and storage capacity. AGIG recently grew to over 1200 employees. We also manage a large contractor workforce, who provide both specialist and operating and maintenance services on AGIG’s gas distribution networks.

About the Opportunity
We are looking for an Environment Business Partner who is passionate about sustainability and environmental stewardship to help shape the future of Australia’s energy network.
As an Environment Business Partner, you will work closely with Operations, Maintenance and Project teams to provide expert environmental and heritage advice, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive sustainability and ESG initiatives across our operations.
This role sits within the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) function and reports directly to the Senior Health, Safety & Environment Manager – Corporate & Distribution, partnering across the business to support safe, sustainable and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance and Project teams to provide strategic and operational environment and heritage advice.
- Manage environment and heritage approvals, licences, permits, compliance activities, audits and regulatory reporting.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of AGIG’s Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), Operational Environmental Management Plans and associated processes.
- Identify and manage environmental risks, including biodiversity, heritage, contamination, waste, water, emissions, noise and vibration, while supporting effective risk controls.
- Lead environmental and heritage incident investigations, implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvement.
- Monitor, analyse and report on environmental and ESG performance, supporting AGIG’s sustainability and net zero ambitions.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with regulators, consultants, service providers and stakeholders.
- Provide coaching, mentoring and training to employees and service providers to strengthen environment and heritage awareness and compliance.
- Support environment and heritage governance activities, including compliance tracking, approvals management and field compliance audits.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in environmental planning, approvals, compliance and sustainability within utilities, construction or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of environmental and heritage legislation across Australia and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship-building skills.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to influence, solve problems and deliver practical environmental outcomes.
