Who we are

Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) owns, operates and invests in infrastructure which delivers gas to more than two million homes and businesses, and is one of the largest gas infrastructure businesses in Australia. AGIG manages over 36,000km of distribution networks, more than 4,300km of transmission pipelines and 60 petajoules of storage capacity. We employ over 500 team members and manage a contractor workforce of approximately 1600, who provide both specialist and operating and maintenance services on AGIG’s gas distribution networks.

Our business is actively participating in the energy transition by delivering the natural gas needed today and advancing solutions for the future.  Our Net Zero goal and emissions reduction targets outline our ongoing commitment to a sustainable energy future. We know that to deliver our net zero goal in a timely, affordable and reliable way for all customers, a diverse range of energy supply is needed. We will continue to work with customers and stakeholders to deliver and develop the energy infrastructure solutions essential to lowering emissions – including through natural gas, renewable gas and carbon capture and sequestration solutions.

About the Opportunity

Love data? Passionate about AI and predictive analytics? Join us as our Customer Data Lead and help shape the future of energy through data-driven insights, reporting to the Customer Data and Revenue Manager.

This is a senior, hands‑on role for someone who’s great with number and can tell a compelling story with data, influence decision-makers and bring analytics to life. You’ll help power smarter decisions across pricing, marketing, investment, and growth by turning raw data into powerful, actionable intelligence.

This role can be based in Adelaide or Melbourne.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and operationalise predictive models (e.g. connection likelihood, switch/retention propensity, consumption and appliance forecasting).
  • Develop visually compelling, governed Power BI dashboards and geospatial visualisations to identify postcode/suburb-level growth opportunities.
  • Embed AI and machine learning into everyday processes to inform strategic business decisions.
  • Partner with Business Development and Marketing teams to run test-and-learn experiments and analyse ROI through clear, transparent reporting.
  • Deliver probabilistic business cases that combine forecasting, scenario modelling and risk analysis for demand connection and expansion opportunities.
  • Standardise and document analytics strategy and modelling frameworks, ensuring consistency, auditability, and traceability across all projects.
  • Collaborate across teams to bring insights into real-world decisions — from campaign targeting and customer retention to capital investment planning.

About You

  • Proven experience in data analytics, data science, or a related field — ideally within energy, utilities, or another complex industry.
  • Demonstrated success delivering predictive models and business-focused visualisations that drive action.
  • Strong expertise in SQL and Power BI; experience with AI/ML techniques is highly regarded.
  • A commercial mindset — able to balance data accuracy with business context and urgency.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and clearly articulate insights to non‑technical stakeholders
  • Experience in test-and-learn experimentation, ROI analysis, and continuous improvement practices.
  • An understanding of the Australian energy market — including the roles of network owners, operators, and retailers — is a plus.
  • A collaborative, inclusive working style and a genuine curiosity to keep learning and evolving.
